About Osteotec

INVESTING IN INNOVATION THAT LASTS

Pioneering solutions for improved patient care

Osteotec was founded three decades ago with a single goal – to improve people’s health at every stage of their life, delivering products and services with integrity and accountability.

While the solutions we provide clinicians may have changed over the past 30 years, our commitment to helping deliver the best patient care possible has never wavered.

Today we’re still motivated by the same values, with an unfaltering dedication to creating a workplace in which our people can grow and thrive.

And that focus won’t change as we tackle healthcare’s challenges together with our customers, partners and patients at the heart of everything we do.

The history of Osteotec.

A UK first for small joints

Osteotec founder Gareth Thomas launches the business in June 1993, opening our first premises in Christchurch, Dorset, later that year.

Osteotec becomes the UK’s first specialist small joints distributor, partnering with Wright Medical Technology in November 1993 to distribute products including the Swanson Finger.

The business continues to grow throughout the decade, gaining ISO 9001 and 13485 certification in 1994 and expanding into new premises in 1996.

Osteotec also launches innovations including the Osteotec Spring Conference, the industry’s first dedicated podiatry surgery event which runs for more than a decade.

The business remains guided by Gareth’s original principles, offering an established route to market in a niche industry with a focus on the upper limb and foot surgery markets.

From distributor to manufacturer

Osteotec grows and diversifies, forming distribution partnerships with companies including Ascension, Synerception, Integra, Arex and TriMed.

In 2004 work begins on development of the first Osteotec products, partnering with the University of Bath and launching its own research and development department.

Launched in 2007, the Osteotec Silicone Finger is a comprehensive solution for MCP and PIP joints affected by osteoarthritis and is followed shortly by the Concentric Bone Graft (CBG) System for harvesting bone graft to aid bone fusion.

New products and a new home

Osteotec continues to be the partner of choice for manufacturers including Polyganics and DJO and in 2013 becomes the exclusive foot surgery distributor in the UK for Zimmer.

With an established reputation for developing a range of deliberately simple and easy-to-use surgical aids and implants, Osteotec begins own-labelling OEM products with the Osteotec brand and gaining FDA approval for its own-brand products.

The company is acquired by VentureEP before passing into the ownership of Matt Woods, who relocates the business to its present, 7,000 sq ft facility in Newbury.

Osteotec’s in-house product range expands again with the purchase of Synerception and the ChiroKlip, the powerful self-fixing disposable device for protecting the protruding ends of K-wires.

Expansion into new niches

The core business remains underpinned by our outstanding reputation in the market and staff expertise, with Osteotec becoming the exclusive distribution partner for Paragon 28 in 2020.

In 2022, we focused on innovative products and enduring design philosophies through new partnerships with international manufacturers, including Enovis, DJO, and Mathys.

In 2023, we opened new offices in Ireland and Malmö, further developing our shoulder-to-finger solutions with Beznoska CMCJ replacement, G21 shoulder cement spacer, and an elbow replacement from LRE System, improving patient and clinician outcomes.

In 2024, we launched our spine division featuring SI-BONE’s iFuse 3D™ Implant System and expanded our leadership team.

Celebrating three decades of success

We were proud to celebrate Osteotec’s 30th anniversary in 2023.

As part of our celebrations we once again partnered with the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) to support the LION project in Lilongwe, Malawi, through a series of fundraising activities held throughout the year that raised £13,000.

We were also excited to launch our new brand, which reflects 30 years of product innovation and Osteotec’s dedication to providing clinicians and patients with the best solutions and services.

As we look ahead to the future we’re committed to continuing to work with fantastic partners who share our values, and to delivering the highest quality expertise at every step of the customer journey.
